Chindeni Bushcamp

South Luangwa National Park, Zambia

Property Description

In an enviable location on the edge of a lagoon where hippo chortle and elephant wallow, stands Chindeni – undoubtedly one of the most beautiful tented camps in the South Luangwa. There’s something about sleeping under canvas that ignites a sense of adventure in everyone.

At Chindeni you can combine that thrill with style and comfort in one of its four opulent tents. Gaze out from your private veranda onto the lagoon which attracts birds and animals from miles around. Or settle back with a gin-and-tonic in the central lounge and dining area – a glorious expanse of varnished decking arranged on several levels around the surrounding ebony trees, boasting, of course, the same spectacular view of the serene lagoon and its inhabitants.

With stripped wooden floors, four-poster beds, cosy sitting areas, en suite bathrooms, and vaulted canvas ceilings, Chindeni’s spacious tents are so inviting that you could be forgiven for never wanting to leave your room. Especially when you can see so much wildlife just by stepping onto your own private deck jutting out over the lagoon. Two of the tents are twins (2 queen-sized beds) and two are doubles (king-sized bed).

Chindeni is open from May to December.

Note: Private guide and vehicle or private camp is required whenever a child under 12 years is staying at a Bushcamp.

"Bird life is incredible!!! Dinner next to the river is unforgettable."
Situated on a small lagoon (ox bow lagoon), just down from the main river, bird life at Chindeni is fantastic! Elephants saunter down to drink as you enjoy relaxing on your bean bags on your raised balcony. The large rooms at Chindeni are the only tented options at The Bushcamp Company (the rest being mostly wood based) which allows you to enjoy the night bush sounds more proficiently. The lounge area is fantastic and comfortable and the dinner spot, next to the river, brilliant.

"Mfuwe, Chindeni, and Kapamba Bushcamp Company, South Luangwa, Zambia"
We recently had a great time staying at all three places. Mfuwe is a lodge with great accommodations and your place looks out over the water so when we woke up in the morning and opened the shutters there were several animals right there! The food and people were fantastic. We only stayed one night b/c we wanted to get to the smaller Bushcamps but I would stay here a bit longer, maybe after the bushcamps. Super relaxing! Chindeni Bushcamp: Great accommodations, food and people. I love how these small camps "surprise" you with some fun activity while you stay. The safaris here were good. I loved that when I showered I could watch elephants meander along the water. Kapamba Bushcamp: This was my favorite camp of the bushcamps here, although the accommodations were a bit more interesting. The rooms were all open to the outside and at night you closed your gates so no large animals could come through. The people here were amazing!! The food was great and the safaris were awesome!!! There was a little tree house with our specific room so we could hang out there in the afternoons and watch the wildlife. Overall, the bushcamps are all first class accommodations -- the water is safe for drinking, the rooms and gathering areas are well kept and appointed, and the staffs were amazing. We were so pleased with everything we experienced!
