Jabali Ridge

Property Description

Set high on a rocky kopje overlooking a landscape dotted with spiky palms and bulbous baobabs, Jabali Ridge is a sophisticated base from which to explore Ruaha National Park. The remarkable beauty of Ruaha is not only in the landscape and its diversity of flora and fauna, or the impressive big game, but in the feeling of having the wilderness all to yourself. With only a handful of visitors at any one time in an area the size of New Jersey, this is an exceptional safari experience.

Jabali Ridge’s 8 suites are hidden amongst the rocky boulders that cocoon the property. An infinity pool, spa and plenty of places to laze ensure that time off is as memorable as time out in the bush. Expert guides lead walking safaris, game drives and night drives.

With views over Ruaha from every corner of the room, the guest suites are designed to maximise the stunning landscape beyond. Be it from the bed, the desk or the bathroom, every space is a viewpoint and open to nature. Louvered shutters can be opened completely, blurring the lines between building and nature, or closed for privacy. King sized beds are the perfect place for an afternoon siesta, or simply relax outside on your private deck. Bathrooms are fully equipped with rain showers and flushing toilets.

Game drives

Guided game drives are offered twice a day from Jabali Ridge. Our six-seater game-viewing vehicles are open-sided with a canvas roof; canvas sides can be rolled down in case of rain (rain ponchos are provided). All vehicles have power points where you can recharge your devices, and are fitted with fridges to keep your drinks deliciously frosty. A private game-viewing vehicle can be booked by prior arrangement. In the morning, maximise your game-viewing time by taking a delicious breakfast picnic with you to enjoy under the shade of a tree. In the evening, sip a cold gin & tonic in the heart of the bush as the sun sinks below the horizon.

Night game drives

When the sun descends, the elusive night animals come out to play. Explore the secrets of these shy creatures on a night game drive from Jabali Ridge.

Walking safaris

A walking safari is one the most intimate ways to experience the bush and can be enjoyed from Jabali Ridge with an experienced armed guide and local tracker. Eye-to-eye with the wildlife, your senses are heightened and the sights, sounds and smells of the bush come alive.

Hot air ballooning (Jun to Oct)

Take to the skies and soar in a hot air balloon over Ruaha National Park at sunrise one morning. This is a really spectacular way to start the day and see the park from an entirely different perspective. You will be picked up in the early hours before sunrise, transferred to the balloon launch site and have a safety briefing, before taking flight and travelling low along the Great Ruaha River. On reaching the confluence with the Mwagusi River, the pilot will take the balloon high up and travel back, enjoying incredible aerial views of the baobab forests, rivers, kopjes and wildlife below. On landing you will be treated to a fully cooked bush breakfast with sparkling wine, before you are transferred back to your camp. The balloons accommodate up to 12 people and no under 7’s due to safety.

NB. Only available in the dry season between June and end of October each year. At additional cost, and subject to availability.

    "Wild & Isle Review"
Above the ground, in the midst of a koppie, Jabali Ridge is Ruaha’s most luxurious lodge. Features of the lodge include a rocky boma, plunge pool overlooking a baobab forest, WiFi in the rooms, and a unique shop. Rooms are large, spacious and all face the receding sun. There is a hammock in all rooms as well as a very comfortable and chic outside lounge area. For family groups there is a villa available that is situated away from the main lodge with separate dining, pool, chef, butler and eating facilities. A mixture of game walks and drives is recommended, as is a trip to the Great Ruaha River for golden hour.

    "Jabali Ridge Splendor"
"We just returned from 6 nights in Ruaha National Park. 3 nights were spent at Jabali Ridge, and I can not say enough good things about our visit. The staff is first rate - the best service we've ever received without question. A big thank you to our guide, Augustino, Tam, Martin, JB, Chef Rama and everyone else that I may be forgetting. You made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived, and it is not something we will soon forget. The pictures do not do the property justice. The lodge and rooms are beautiful, the views overlooking the valley are spectacular and that infinity pool!!!! Ruaha National Park itself is an amazing place with an incredible landscape, fantastic game viewing and a low number of visitors. Our favorite safari to date. This place should be at the top of your list!"
