Our most recent trip to Botswana revealed a massive surprise in the heart of the Okavango Delta… Qorokwe Camp…. a mind blowing, architecturally magnificent, luxury safari lodge.
Qorokwe Camp is situated in the wildlife rich South-Eastern corner of the Okavango Delta and borders the famous Chitabe Region of the UNESCO World Heritage site. Previously a hunting concession, Qorokwe’s luxury safari lodge is now dedicated to photographic safaris and what a great area for wildlife and nature photography it is!
Welcome to Qorokwe:
Flying into the Qorokwe airstrip, the first thing that one will notice is the variety of vegetation encountered on your safari activities, further accentuated once inside the customised, luxurious 4×4 safari vehicle while transferring to camp.
With a huge variety of game on this concession, who knows what you may encounter on your transfer to camp. Light cocktails, provided for you by the camp manager, Danny, and his team, welcome you to Qorokwe and immediately, upon stepping into your new camp, you will notice the modern and different architecture used here in comparison with traditional safari lodges. Clean symmetry to the design of the lodge lends itself to panoramic views over the lagoon in front of camp. Staff are extremely friendly and will capture your hearts with their engaging manner and great sense of humour.
Luxury Safari Rooms:
After your welcoming and introduction to Qorokwe, your professional guide will accompany you to your rooms. Rooms abide by the same symmetry and clean design as the main lodge, allowing you to feel in complete privacy.
Each generous sized room features a sitting area, work desk, comfortable beds with exquisite views onto the lagoon.
Cleverly designed showers, which allow for both indoor and outdoor use, compliment the chic, generously sized bathrooms compliment each room. A great feature of the bathroom is the bath itself with it’s wonderful views. Every product in the room is luxurious and carefully chosen andalenvironmentally friendly.
Dining and Cultural Experiences:
Especially delightful is the dining area at Qorokwe, lending itself to a European theme. It felt as if we were sitting in a 5 star outdoor restaurant in France. The one major difference being a herd of elephants playing around in the waterhole in front of camp. Food is delectable! Qorokwe caters for all different palates with a local, yet modern theme.
If you are lucky enough to stay at Qorokwe on a Monday evening you will witness culture night. Local staff entertain with cultural singing and dancing. It is wonderful to see how much pride and enthusiasm they enact this experience with. Singing and dancing is at the heart of all African culture and the Qorokwe staff live by this.
The Extra Effort:
A great feature of Qorokwe, we found, was the brisk introduction clients were given before heading out on their afternoon game drives. Danny will sit all down and run through the reasons why the Okavango Delta is such a prolific wilderness area, taking into account topography, geography, flood lines, as well as future projects which will be of great importance to growing this pristine wilderness in the future, one only need to read a bit further into the great zebra migration that happens yearly from the Mgadikgadi Pans to the Okavango Delta.

Professional guides at Qorokwe are deserving of their titles as they keep you enthralled with all the nature around you. Relaxing around the fire at the boma, or on a exciting game drive, they will amaze you with their knowledge.
The great positioning of the concession, coupled with the vegetation of the area, lends itself to brilliant wildlife viewing.
There are numerous lions abounding the concession, good leopard viewing and, something which can be very interesting and not often seen in other parts of the Okavango Delta, bat-eared fox viewing on night drives is particularly good.
Conclusion:
Under the Wilderness Safaris Portfolio, Qorokwe is graded as a Classic Camp. Wild & Isle thinks it offers a Premier Camp experience and feel. It won’t be long until Qorokwe is lifted to this Premier classification and therefore we believe it is extremely well priced for what it offers!
